Does muscle really weight more than fat? The TRUTH!
Have you ever tried to lose weight, but after a week or 2 or working out the scale seems to be going the wrong direction? Has someone tried to comfort you by saying that it is because you are putting on muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat? OK, let’s straighten this out once and for all. Especially since I am one of those people that will tell you that.
The argument. When someone is gaining weight from working out, I will tell them that it is possibly because they are building muscle. The often come back telling me that someone told them that isn’t true, and that a pound is a pound, whether it is fat or muscle. That is true, a pound is a pound. It is like the old question, “Which is heavier, a pound or bricks or a pound of feathers”? However, which one takes up more room?
Obviously the answer is feathers. It takes a lot of feathers to make a pound. When it comes to muscle vs fat, it takes more fat to make a pound than it does muscle. So, which would you rather have, a pound of fat or a pound of muscle? If you are seriously looking to drop a few pounds (or more than a few) and build some lean muscle, check out My 21 Day Fix Review Here. I am 6’1 and weigh 187 lbs. I went to my health screening for my insurance and they told me that I am just about overweight. I am probably around 12% body fat right now, which is very healthy. I workout, and have muscle. If you looked at me, you would think that I am far from overweight. However, according to the BMI test that they use, a person my height is supposed to weight a certain amount. It does not factor in muscle weight vs fat weight. There is a big difference between the two.
So, if you are working out, and your scale is not doing what you want it to, give it a little time. Make sure you are watching what you eat, stick with your workouts, pay attention to how you feel.
